March 14, and again in early May, Calgary communities explore the legacy
of urbanist Jane Jacobs. Jacobs was an urban activist and writer who
championed the interests of local residents and mixed, pedestrian-oriented
urban communities. She is best known for her landmark work, "The Death and
Life of Great American Cities".
Jane's Walk is a series of free neighbourhood walking tours on May 1 and 2
led by volunteers who want to share the life and lessons of their
communiites. If you or someone in your community would like to lead a walk,
please contact jblack@thecalgaryfoundation.org ASAP. The program is being
finalized in March. For more information see the attached pdf.
Preceding this on March 14 is "Jane's Talk: Urban Goddess - Jane Jacobs
Reconsidered." Explore the legacy of this legendary urban writer through
film and discussion at the John Dutton Theatre in the Central Library,
Sunday, March 14, 2 to 4 p.m. In partnership with The Calgary Foundation
and The Federation of Calgary Communities. No registration required. See
the attached pdf.
Looking forward to the talking and the walking! Feel free to pass this
along.
